He will be having canvassing and phone banking every Saturday and Sunday from 10-12 starting at 10370 E. Bethany Place. Please consider helping if you are able. This is one of those seats that we MUST keep blue in November.
Arturo Jimenez asked that people please come to the School Board Meeting on September 23rd (3rd Thursday) to support getting the mil levy on the ballot. Arturo is for this mil levy and against the proposed bond initiative. Please come to the school board meeting and go to denverforexcellentschools.org to get more information on both initiatives.
Gino Furzi announced that we need volunteers for a Lit Drop on October 13th and 14th. This is the perfect way to volunteer if you would rather not have much voter contact. Just drop the literature at the door and leave! Easy! Gino also mentioned that HD4 will mostly be working in a combined effort through OFA rather than having a second separate effort.
Chris Guarino, PCP for Precinct 422 announced that the Greens Schools Annual Summit, held by the US Green Building Council will be held this year at North High School on Friday, October 26th from 8-6. There is a fee for non DPS employees, but Chris feels he can get a deal for tickets if anyone in the HD is interested. For more information, please go to usgbccolorado.org or call Chris at 970.471.1509.
Michael Kadovitz announced that they are looking for people to become members of the Mayor’s Council on Disabilites.
Michael mentioned that Susan Shepard is hosting a Senior Resource Day on Friday, October 5th from 9:30 to 1:30pm. If you would like to have the FREE Luncheon Buffet, you must sign up by September 28th. If you have questions about the Senoir Resource Day, please call Sister Georgeann Quinlan and leave a message at 720.337.7707.
Samantha Padilla-Scheitler called the meeting to order at 9:05. She thanked Michael Engle of the Argyle, Rosemary Lopez of Taza de Café, Steve Naples of Heidi’s Brooklyn Deli, and Ray Sturns for bringing donuts. We also welcomed new attendees and Samantha introduced the leadership team.
Finance Chair Report Diane Dunn HD finance update. Diane discussed our next big fund raising event. The Second Annual Wine Tasting Fundraiser will be held on Saturday, September 8th from 6 to 8:30 pm at The Sculpture Studio at 3500 W. 23nd Ave. Tickets for the event are $20 and we still need donations of door prizes, wine and appetizers. Volunteers are also needed to help on the night of the event. If you are unable to attend, please feel free to donate instead. Diane discussed a new level of Century Club called Victory Club. It is $500/ year or $45/month, but includes extra percs. Diane reminded attendees about the Edward M Kennedy Awards Dinner on October 6th at 5:30. She is selling raffle tickets for many fabulous prizes (including money). If the price of a ticket to the EMK Dinner is too steep, consider buying raffle tickets. They are $5 or 5 for $20!
Debra Johnson, Denver Clerk and Recorder with Juan Guzman, Deputy Clerk and Recorder. The Clerk and Recorder’s office allows visitors in to see how mail-in ballots are processed. The public is welcome. There is currently a shortage of Republican, unaffiliated and bi-lingual election judges. If you know someone who may be interested, please have them go to www.denvervotes.org. She also mentioned the new ballot trace option and an iPad ap. There are two types of inactive voters; Inactive – Return mail undeliverable and Inactive – failed to vote. Please be sure YOUR voter registration is active.
Elected Officials Update The following elected officials gave an update.
· School Board Member Arturo Jimenez
· City Auditor Dennis Gallagher
GOTV – Betsy Daniel, Manny Lopez del Rio, and Stephanie Benetti of the OFA team spoke to the attendees. There will be phone banking from the NEW OFFICE at 3867 Tennyson. The grand opening for the new office will be held on First Friday, September 7th at 6:30 pm. There is also an office at Alameda and Federal and they are looking for one more office around Bear Valley. There will new voter registration each weekend from now until October 8th. OCTOBER 9TH IS THE LAST DAY TO REGISTER VOTERS. Inactive voters can still be reactivated until October 30th. Manny mentioned that OFA is working especially to reactivate inactive voters. The OFA group also asked people to consider letting an OFA worker from out of town stay at your house for one or two months. Or, if you have an extra vehicle they could use, this would be a tremendous help for them to be able to do what they are here to do. Please call Betsy Daniel at 303.433.0818 for a schedule for OFA happenings.
